What to Do After a Crash With Injuries in Hackensack

Being involved in a motor vehicle accident can be overwhelming, especially when injuries are involved. The priority after a crash is to check for injuries and call 911 to request medical assistance. Even if injuries appear minor, prompt evaluation is important, as some symptoms, such as concussions or soft-tissue injuries, may not be immediately noticeable.

If it is safe to do so, drivers should move vehicles out of active traffic lanes and activate hazard lights to reduce the risk of further collisions. Documenting the scene can also be helpful; taking photos of vehicle damage, road conditions, traffic signals, license plates, and visible injuries may provide valuable information later.

Exchanging contact and insurance information with all involved parties is essential, as is gathering contact details from any witnesses who saw the crash occur. Seeking follow-up medical care and keeping records of all treatment, prescriptions, and expenses can help protect both health and legal rights. Reporting the crash to your insurance company on time is also recommended, but drivers should be cautious about giving recorded statements before understanding their options.

If injuries were sustained, consulting with a New Jersey car accident attorney may help clarify available options, preserve evidence, and ensure that important filing deadlines are met.

What Injuries Can Occur After a Hit-and-Run Accident in New Jersey?

Hit-and-run accidents can result in a wide range of injuries, even when the initial impact appears minor. Sudden collisions and vehicle rollovers commonly lead to whiplash, which may cause neck pain, stiffness, headaches, and limited mobility that develops hours or days after the crash.

Back injuries, including muscle strains and spinal disc damage, are also frequently reported due to the force placed on the spine.

Victims may experience head injuries or concussions, particularly in crashes involving overturned vehicles or airbag deployment. Symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, nausea, or light sensitivity may not appear immediately.

Cuts, bruises, and other soft tissue injuries often result from contact with seat belts, airbags, broken glass, or interior vehicle surfaces.

In more serious cases, hit-and-run crashes can cause broken bones, internal injuries, or organ damage, especially when emergency response is delayed because the at-fault driver fled the scene.

After an accident, you should seek medical care as soon as possible, even if symptoms seem minor. Medical documentation can be critical for recovery and for pursuing insurance claims, including uninsured motorist coverage under New Jersey law.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit‑and‑run or any motor vehicle accident in New Jersey, it’s important to protect your legal rights and financial future by speaking with an experienced car accident lawyer as soon as possible.

A car accident attorney can help you navigate the no‑fault insurance system, gather evidence, handle communications with insurers, and pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain, and suffering.
