What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Bergen County
Motorcycle accidents can be serious, and taking the right steps immediately afterward can protect your health and legal rights:
Check for injuries and call 911: Make sure you and others are safe. Emergency responders can provide medical care and secure the scene.
Move to a safe area if possible: If vehicles are blocking traffic and it’s safe to do so, move to the side of the road.
Document the scene: Take photos of vehicles, skid marks, road conditions, and any visible injuries. Note the time, location, and weather conditions.
Exchange information: Collect names, addresses, phone numbers, driver’s license numbers, license plate numbers, and insurance details from all parties involved.
Seek medical attention: Some injuries, such as internal trauma or concussions, may not be immediately apparent. Keep records of all treatments and doctor visits.
Contact law enforcement: Filing a police report ensures there is an official record of the accident, which can be essential for insurance and legal claims.
Notify your insurance company: Report the crash promptly and provide accurate details without admitting fault.
Consult a motorcycle accident lawyer: A New Jersey motorcycle accident lawyer can investigate the crash, protect your rights, and help pursue compensation for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.
