Norwood, NJ – Elderly Woman Seriously Hurt in Hit-and-Run Crash on Broad St
Norwood, NJ (March 16, 2026) – An 83-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after a hit-and-run accident outside a restaurant on Broad Street in Norwood.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Reports indicate the woman was outside Hunan Royal on Broad Street when a driver struck her with a vehicle.
According to officials, the driver exited the vehicle after the crash and went inside the restaurant to pick up food. A family member said the woman asked the driver not to leave and requested his information, telling him he had hit her.
The relative reported that the driver denied striking her and returned to his vehicle. He then drove away while the woman remained on the ground with injuries.
Emergency units arrived and provided aid before transporting the woman to Hackensack University Medical Center. Family members said she suffered a brain bleed and chipped teeth after her head hit the ground.
Authorities are working to identify the driver and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Steps to Take After Being Hit by a Car in Norwood
If a driver hits you while you are walking in Norwood, the most important step is to seek medical help immediately. Even if injuries seem minor at first, symptoms such as head trauma, internal bleeding, or fractures may appear later.
A medical evaluation also creates documentation that can be important for insurance claims or any future legal and insurance action.
After receiving medical attention, it is important to report the incident to local law enforcement if it has not already been reported. Police reports often contain key details about the accident, including the time, location, and identities of those involved.
If possible, gather information at the scene such as the driver’s contact and insurance details, the vehicle description, and the names of any witnesses. Take photos of the scene, visible injuries, and nearby traffic signs to preserve important evidence.
Keeping records after the crash is equally important. Save copies of hospital bills, medical reports, prescription costs, and any documentation related to missed work or ongoing treatment. These records can help show the full impact of the accident.
Pedestrian crashes remain a serious safety issue across the state. In 2024, at least 221 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents in New Jersey, marking the highest total in more than three decades.
Preliminary data later showed that pedestrian fatalities declined to about 173 in 2025, though they still represented a significant share of roadway deaths.
Researchers also found that roughly 31.5% of fatal crashes in New Jersey between 2018 and 2022 involved pedestrians, one of the highest proportions in the United States.
