Work-Related Accident Risks on New Jersey Highways

Highway and roadside workers face significant risks due to the fast-paced, unpredictable environment surrounding major roadways like the New Jersey Turnpike. Even routine tasks can become hazardous when heavy machinery, traffic, and elevated work areas are involved. Some of the most common hazards include:

  • Falls from heights or into equipment: Workers often navigate uneven surfaces, elevated platforms, or open utility areas. Falls can cause fractures, internal injuries, or severe trauma.

  • Electrocution risks: Electrical boxes, wiring, and utility connections can pose serious danger if a worker slips, loses balance, or makes contact with exposed components.

  • Struck-by incidents: Passing vehicles, construction machinery, or falling objects can result in significant injuries, even in work zones protected by cones and barriers.

  • Slip and trip hazards: Poor lighting, debris, and uneven pavement can increase the risk of falls, especially during overnight or early-morning shifts.

  • Environmental conditions: Rain, ice, or low visibility can make conditions more dangerous and increase the likelihood of accidents.

Workplace injuries on highways can lead to costly medical care, lost wages, and long recovery periods. Injured workers may be entitled to compensation through workers’ compensation benefits or, in some cases, through additional claims if negligence contributed to the incident.

A New Jersey personal injury attorney can help injured workers understand their rights and pursue the full compensation available under the law. Legal guidance can also assist with navigating insurance issues, medical documentation, and long-term recovery needs.
