T-Bone Crashes in New Jersey
T-bone or side-impact collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes on New Jersey roadways. Because the sides of a vehicle offer less structural protection than the front or rear, occupants are more vulnerable to severe injuries, especially when struck by larger commercial vehicles such as delivery trucks.
Common causes of T-bone collisions include failure to yield, misjudged turns into parking lots or intersections, distracted driving, and reduced visibility during evening hours. These crashes frequently result in head injuries, fractures, internal trauma, and other serious medical complications.
Parking lot entrances, commercial driveways, and busy intersections, like those in many Bergen County and North Jersey communities, are high-risk locations for side-impact collisions. Investigations typically focus on vehicle speed, right-of-way, driver attention, and whether either party attempted evasive action.
For victims, the aftermath of a T-bone crash can involve extensive medical care, time away from work, and long-term recovery. A skillful New Jersey car accident lawyer can help injured individuals understand their rights, gather evidence, negotiate with insurers, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.

Paramus, NJ – Injuries Reported in Tractor-Trailer Crash on Rte 17
Early Wednesday morning, November 26, emergency crews responded to a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car on Route 17 near the Garden State Parkway in Paramus.
Paramus, NJ (November 27, 2025) – Early Wednesday morning, November 26, emergency crews responded to a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car on Route 17 near the Garden State Parkway in Paramus.
According to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti, the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m., causing major traffic delays and prompting a Hazmat response after responders discovered the tractor-trailer leaking fuel. The 55-year-old driver of the Hyundai Tucson was transported to a nearby hospital after reporting pain, and their condition is still being assessed
Route 17 North was fully closed at Century Road, while the left and middle lanes on the southbound side were briefly shut down. Southbound lanes were reopened later in the morning, but northbound traffic remained closed as of 7:30 a.m. Motorists were advised to take alternate routes while emergency responders managed the scene.
The Paramus Police Department continues investigating the cause of the crash. We hope the injured victim makes a full and smooth recovery.
Risks and Safety Considerations on Route 17
Crashes involving tractor-trailers and passenger cars present unique risks due to the significant size and weight differences between vehicles. Even low-speed collisions can result in serious injuries for car occupants, including whiplash, broken bones, soft-tissue injuries, and head or neck trauma. In addition, large trucks can pose a heightened danger during jackknife or rollover situations, potentially striking other vehicles or creating road hazards.
Fuel leaks or spilled cargo add further safety concerns, requiring Hazmat teams to secure the area before traffic can resume safely. Emergency responders, including police, fire, and medical personnel, play a fundamental role in managing these complex scenes to prevent secondary accidents and protect both victims and motorists.
Environmental and traffic conditions also influence accident risks. Heavy traffic, poor visibility, slick roads, or sudden stops can increase the likelihood of collisions between cars and commercial vehicles. Driver factors such as distraction, fatigue, or impaired judgment can exacerbate these risks. Maintaining safe distances, avoiding distractions, and driving defensively are essential practices when sharing the road with large trucks.
Understanding these hazards underscores the importance of vigilance and caution on busy highways like Route 17. If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash like this, a New Jersey car accident lawyer can help you recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Seeking legal guidance can help victims navigate claims and recover for both economic and non-economic losses resulting from such accidents.
